SEOUL - In order to differentiate itself in the market tablet computer that is increasingly competitive, this year's Samsung Electronics plans to launch an Android-based tablet that runs on so-called fourth-generation network technology (4G), which promises faster in the case of downloading data.
"The race for 4G (fourth generation) has begun," JK Shin, president of Samsung's mobile communications division, told Dow Jones on Monday (5/30/2011), adding that the transition to 4G is "inevitable" for the tablet.
Previously was Samsung Electronics will launch a 10.1-inch version for families Galaxy Tab in June this and the 4G version later this year.
New tablet will be an enhanced version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Shin said, without giving further details.
After launching a seven-inch device last October, Samsung will begin selling a tablet with a larger screen-8, 9-inches and 10.1 inches in June. 10.1-inch model, to be sold between USD499 and USD599, will run on an upgraded version of the Android software, called Honeycomb, and feature dual-core processor and two-megapixel camera facing forward
